Scholarship Information
Toro Mai Trust offers one finanical scholarship as well an opportunity for three Year 13 students to exhibit their work at Mind, Body & Salt. Art works can be sold with proceeds from sales going to the exhibitor (a small percentage of sales returns to the trust to go towards financial support of future students). Scholarship details: 1st: One scholarship of $1000 plus one year of exhibition space at Mind, Body and Salt. 2nd & 3rd: one year of exhibition space at Mind, Body and Salt. Eligibility: Application is open to Year 13 students from Whangarei District who are entering their first year of full-time study for an undergraduate degree in arts or design at a New Zealand tertiary provider. All applicants must support their application with a visual submission such as photos or short videos of at least seven pieces of their own original works which could be available for exhibition. "Toro mai tō ringa, Kia harirūtia" "Reach out your hand and clasp mine" The beginning of a favourite waiata from the North, written by Sir Kingi Ihaka, this epitomises the kaupapa of the Toro Mai Trust. Toro Mai Trust was established in 2019 to assist first year art students cover costs of tertiary education and materials. The intention is to raise funds that can be awarded to a local student on an annual basis to meet some of the many financial commitments. Recipients will be selected from Whangarei secondary schools. Toro Mai Trust is proud to be associated with Mind, Body and Salt, Whangarei who provide facilities within their premises for emerging youth artists to exhibit their creations. A rotation system will operate to ensure that all students get maximum exposure for their work |
